A frost hardy perennial, grow in a cool greenhouse or similar in colder areas. In mild areas a good mulch in autumn should protect the bulb from frost. Even in milder areas a mulch will be of great benefit. it prefers a rich, moisture retentive soil in partial shade. Dig in grit and leaf mould or garden compost when planting.
Well worth the little bit of effort, this beauty has a well striped green and white spathe, topped with a maroon hood. One umbrella like leaf with multiple radiance and is followed by a persistant spike of brilliant red berries.
It grows about 1m tall, with a spread of 50cm.
