Woodwardia
Named after the botanist Thomas Jenkinson Woodward (1745-1820)
A small genus of 12 species, mostly from Northern temperate regions. The hardy species make great garden plants, being very easy to grow in moist soil. They can grow in deep shade as well as full sun if the soil doesn’t dry out. They prefer acidic to neutral soil. They are called Chain Ferns as the veins, sori and indusium on the fronds form a chain like pattern.
